Fredy Studer
was born 1948 in Lucerne, where he still resides. He is a selftaught drummer
and percussionist. Since the early seventies he has performed as a freelancer
with musicians ranging from "A", such as Abercrombie, to
"Z" such as Zorn.
Over the past thirty years, Studer has worked
with many different bands on many different projects. He has given concerts and
workshops, made radio and television recordings, and composed music for dance,
theatre and film throughout Europe, Africa, Japan, South America, the
Caribbean, Taiwan, India, Russia, the United States and Canada.
Current
groups and projects are (beside others) the since 1990 existing
hardcore
chambermusic trio "Koch-Schütz-Studer" (with Hans Koch and Martin
Schütz), "Roots and Wires" ("Koch-Schütz-Studer" plus DJ M.
Singe and
DJ I-Sound), the duo with Pierre Favre and the percussion-trio
"Schulkowsky-
Studer-Baron" (with Robyn Schulkowsky and Joey
Baron).
Fredy Studer was one of the first drummers who incorporated open
improvisation as well as straight beats into his style. He was
named
"... one of the most innovative drummers in Europe..." by
"Drums & Percussion" magazine. His work has been recorded on more
than fifty CDs and LPs.

Fredy Studer wurde 1948 in Luzern geboren, wo er auch
lebt. Er ist Autodidakt. Seine Spielerfahrungen seit den frühen
Siebziger-Jahren sind so vielseitig wie seine Freelance-Aktivitäten mit

Chambermusic Trio "Koch-Schütz-Studer" (mit Hans Koch und Martin
Schütz), "Roots and Wires" ("Koch-Schütz-Studer" plus DJ M.
Singe und DJ I-Sound), das Duo mit Pierre Favre sowie das Perkussions-Trio
"Schulkowsky-Studer-Baron" (mit Robyn Schulkowsky und Joey
Baron).
Fredy Studer war einer der ersten Schlagzeuger, welcher offene
Improvisation
und Grooves in seinem Stil verband. Die Fachzeitschrift
"Drums & Percussion"
schreibt:"... Der Schweizer Fredy
Studer ist ohne Zweifel einer der innovativsten Drummer Europas...". Sein
Wirken ist auf über fünfzig Tonträgern dokumentiert.
